A joint statement by the IDF and the Israel Security Agency said Hamas informed mediators it would deliver a coffin at 4 p.m. local time Tuesday. After the handover, the casket was transported to a military facility where forensic specialists began identification procedures that concluded overnight.
Ceasefire Continues With Isolated Violence
The Gaza ceasefire negotiated last November remains broadly in effect. Israeli ground troops have withdrawn to what the military calls the “yellow line,” a buffer running inside the enclave. Nevertheless, Israeli air and artillery units struck several targets last week, killing dozens of Palestinians. The IDF said the strikes were retaliation for gunfire it attributed to a Hamas militant, which Israeli officials argued breached the truce terms. Hamas has not publicly confirmed the incident.
Despite the relative calm inside Gaza, Israel continues to strike what it describes as Hezbollah positions in southern Lebanon. On Sunday, Israeli jets conducted the first raid in months on Beirut’s southern suburbs, killing Lebanese militant group chief of staff Haytham Ali Tabataba’i, according to Israeli intelligence assessments. The Lebanese group has not released a detailed casualty report.
Operations in the West Bank
The IDF also reported two separate operations in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday:
- Nablus: Soldiers shot and killed a man the security agencies accuse of ramming an Israeli vehicle on May 29, 2024.
- Jenin: Overnight forces killed an individual alleged to have fatally shot Israeli security guard Gideon Perry in August 2024.
Both incidents remain under military investigation, and no Israeli casualties were reported during the raids.

Hostage and Prisoner Exchanges Ongoing
Tuesday’s transfer was the latest in a series of exchanges mediated by international diplomats since the November 2023 ceasefire took effect. Under the framework, Israel has released dozens of Palestinian detainees, including several who died in custody, in return for live captives and remains of those confirmed dead. Diplomatic sources said talks are continuing to locate the final two presumed-dead hostages still in Gaza and to facilitate potential additional swaps.
The plight of remaining hostages continues to galvanize Israeli public opinion. Families and supporters regularly stage demonstrations outside government offices and along major highways, urging authorities to prioritize retrieval efforts. Human rights organizations meanwhile press for transparent accounting of Palestinian detainees held without trial under Israel’s administrative detention system.
Regional Outlook
Security analysts caution that the fragile truce across multiple fronts could unravel if any side perceives major violations. The Israeli cabinet has signaled it will respond swiftly to fire from Gaza or Lebanon, while Hamas and Hezbollah leaders publicly warn of reprisals for Israeli raids. United Nations officials monitoring the situation have urged all parties to maintain dialogue and avoid steps that could trigger a broader escalation.
For now, the identification of Dror Or provides closure to one Israeli family, but it also highlights the unresolved fate of others and underscores the tenuous nature of the ceasefire agreements that currently limit, but have not ended, the broader conflict.
