The company entered the liquid ink business in 2011 by importing finished product into India. Two years later, it commissioned its first domestic manufacturing line at a facility in Delhi, reducing lead times and import costs. In 2021, Toyo Ink India launched a second plant in the western state of Gujarat, closer to many customers in the country’s industrial corridors. The forthcoming capacity upgrade at the Gujarat site represents the company’s largest single investment in liquid inks since that plant opened.
Operations executives report that the facility has been running near its designed limit for several quarters, driven by large orders from converters supplying food and fast-moving consumer-goods brands. Scaling up the plant is expected to ease pressure on production schedules and provide headroom for new product introductions, particularly low-migration and high-performance inks aimed at sustainable packaging applications.
In parallel with physical expansion, Toyo Ink India plans to integrate resource-efficient processes and formulations that support lighter environmental footprints. The group’s global research network is contributing technologies intended to reduce volatile organic compound emissions and improve recyclability of printed substrates. Company leadership has stated that strengthening the sustainable product line is essential to meeting evolving customer specifications and emerging regulatory requirements.
Toyo Ink India was established in Delhi in 2007 and supplies inks, coatings, colorants and related printing solutions to a range of industries, including packaging, publication, labels, plastics and specialty applications. Beyond manufacturing, the firm operates technical service centers that provide color matching, pressroom support and training for printers across India. This localized approach is intended to help brand owners achieve consistent print quality while meeting regional compliance standards.
The upcoming project underscores the company’s commitment to the Indian market and its strategy of tailoring products to local performance, price and regulatory needs. By 2028, Toyo Ink India expects to leverage the additional capacity to shorten lead times, expand product portfolios and reinforce its position within the competitive landscape of ink suppliers. Management views the move as a critical milestone in its goal to secure a leading share of the country’s liquid ink segment.
Looking forward, Toyo Ink India intends to continue monitoring market developments and adjust its production network accordingly. While the current focus is on liquid inks, the firm has indicated that future investments could target other segments such as coatings or plastic colorants if demand patterns justify new capabilities. For now, the Gujarat expansion represents the company’s primary growth initiative, and preparatory work—ranging from equipment specification to environmental permitting—is expected to progress over the next three years.
